Brice de Nice (je t'ai cassé!!!)
Heyhey!
I’m officially addicted… not to smoking or drugs, but rather to traveling! This weekend I traveled to Nice, Monaco and Cannes. It was absolutely amazing! We left Thursday evening and got to the hostel in Nice at around 1am. Im actually thankful for my shitty rez, cause now my hostels are like five star hotels!!! Friday we travelled around Nice. We started off by eating the best chocolate croissant EVER. It was orgasmic… really! Afterwards we walked along La Place des Anglais! Yes that’s right everyone, a boardwalk especially for me!! We walked up to the top of a hill which has the most amazing view of the city and a random waterfall! We also took a bus tour (double decker bus, and we were on the top!) around the city to become historically educated! During our tour we passed a very large square head, home to a very renowned library. All my Qc friends started pointing at it and saying “hey Ashley, it’s you!!!” I laughed along with them (you know how it goes – just smile and nod!!). Eventually I asked what was so funny about the square head and was informed that “Square Heads” are what French ppl call English ppl… who knew!
The next day we went to Monaco… it was beautiful! We saw the palace and the changing of the guards. We were lucky to have gone on Saturday because we were able to see the worshiping ceremony for Saint Devote. A parade of people (mostly religious) walked up to the palace and prayed to their Saint. The Prince was on the Balcony, and I decided that he wasn’t my type and that “happily ever after” would simply have to wait…
We also went to the renowned marine biology museum. It was amazing. I saw Nemo! The boys were thoroughly entertained by all the nice cars… I don’t think I have ever seen so many Ferraris, BMW’s, Porches (…) in my life. Out of the 500 pictures that the guys took, I’m sure 250 are of cars!
That night we went out to an Irish Pub (in Nice – it’s less expensive!) It was crazy! Apparently the best bars in Nice are run by Anglophones! No joke!!!! I was so happy to hear the English language!!! I even ordered my drink in English… and the bar tender understood! While we were dancing, a guy (who I’m assuming had one drink too many) smashed his glass on his head and was bleeding everywhere… lovely.
The next day half the group slept in and headed to Cannes later that morning, while Gab, Felix and I woke up early (like troupers!) and went to see the Russian Church and the Chagall Museum. The Russian Church was beautiful…very colourful. We were able to catch part of a mass that was taking place. In an Orthodox mass, the priest does not face his congregation…he has his back towards them in order to face God. Also, the mass isn’t done orally but rather is sung. The Chagall Museum was also great… his painting are so colourful!!! Gab and I pretended that we knew a lot about art… I noticed that, in his paintings, many of the people’s limbs are not attached to their body but displaced throughout the painting. Gab noticed that he had a thing for horses (their heads in particular!) Afterwards we caught a train and met the rest of the group in Cannes. Cannes seems to be a very rich town and we spent the first bit of the afternoon sitting by the beach (which was beautiful!) and watching the rich ppl walk by in their prada jeans, chanel glasses and louis vuitton purses! Even the dogs dressed better then I did with their Gucci coats! We then took a boat to l’île st marguerite where we were able to see the prison where the “man in the iron mask” was held in captivity before he was transferred to a prison in Paris. While in the actual prison, the guards told us that they would be closing in five minutes…however I thought they meant the ACTUAL prison. So I left the prison and kept walking around the fort. Luckily for me, they saw me just as they were about to lock the gates. I almost spend the night in the prison…
So that was my weekend! Had a blast and can’t wait to go travel somewhere else (yes parents, I know I’m here for school!!!!! )
Tonight Im gonna watch a soccer game… it’s like going to see the Habs play (only not as good!) And Nick – Marseilles is playing!!!!
Thinking of you guys always!
-Ash

Ah yes, so the addiction begins. It doesn't take much, does it?? But this is good news for me. Now, when I'm heading to sketchy places, I won't have to dig around for someone crazy enough to go with me. I can just call you!
Now, what do you mean, the prince "wasn't my type" ??? This is impossible. The prince is everyone's type... he lives in a palace. Geez, Ash, I'm disappointed!
In other news, the Habs won on Monday! Whoot whoot!! You know, if you're lucky, when you get to Paris, you'll stumble across the same pub I found (can't remember the name) and be able to watch a hockey game! Obviously, this is a Canadian bar. So cool!
Also, (not to rub it in or anything) there are new episodes of both our favourite hospital shows this week... and HOLY CRAP! I saw the previews and I think Thursday might well be my undoing. It's going to be hard core! But worry not, there is now a special directory on my computer called "Er for Ashley" and another called "Grey's for Ashley". So you're pretty good to go when you get back!
I love you beaucoup beaucoup beaucoup! (don't stop with the crazy stuff!!!)
You do seem to have a knack for seeking out the odd, seems to me that breaking a glass on your head defenitely qualifies as class-A odd!
Mmmmmm... Orgasmic croissants, I think I need to catch the next flight out.
Though I cannot agree with Steph's encouragement of continued "jackasseries", I do agree that you should seize the day and squeeze in all of the adventure you can, except of course spending the night in prison!
Stay safe,
Jo
Marseille is a good team...not my favorite French team but close.
It's now official that I'm even more jealous of you...your flamengo photo reminded me of a very old story, but it can only be told and not written, so itll have to wait!!!
Have fun!!! and no smashing of glasses on your head...
NICK
you know ash for someone who's in france for school....you're seeing a lot of violence....first someone tried to steal ur bag....2nd that black man scarring you out of that phone booth and now...a man smashing a glass on his head....or maybe europe is just a continent with crazy ppl....
and i agree with stephy with grey's....it looks so intense...as intense as last years bomb episode....and i don't follow er but i did see previews....and OH MY....steph might puke of excitement!
and hum when you were in that prison where the iron mask dude was...did you think of leo dicaprio (hot...joke)
bye bye
xxxxx
oh and are you going to london anytime soon? cuz if you do my cousin lives there (she moved to london around the same time you left for france).

xxxx
Hello Miss! I'm so hooked on your stories! I can't believe you got to travel to all those awesome places! Wayyyy jealous! I'm oober jealous! I can't believe you actually saw a prince AND nemo! You're so lucking out! You're seeing all the ones worth seeing! Now ... don't make me remind you to study.... cuz it's appearing to me that someone is having A LOT of fun!!! Keep the good times rolling.... btw two pieces of news from my boring life 1- went to the game on Monday- we won and watching Dryden's jersey get retired was so emotional! 2- I'm joining the fight to end breast cancer and doing the walk! ;) Love ya girly! xxx alyssa
Sounds like you had a marvelous time...However do remember that you have to attend class and open books... There, now I've done my mother thing... Wow!!! What an experience.-except for the guy breaking his glass on his head. Sounds like the guy that bled all 0ver my apartment door when I was 23 and nearly died. I have stories too, you know.I love you.
Be good, study hard, and have fun.
And most important, be safe, please. Love Mom
It's Thursday.
Grey's sucked (mostly)
ER was hard core!!!!
That's all you get. I think we both know I could go on for pages and pages, but the point of the blog is to hear you talk, not me.
I love you beaucoup beaucoup beaucoup!
Ashley!!!!!! I love you so much! Mandy and Liisi say hello! I'm glad to know you're having GREAT time in France. Call me soon! I have a letter waiting to be sent to you. Love you chou chou. Je t'aime beaucoup! Hee hee!
